Keep Cambodia Reading!
Growing up in America, I never had a shortage of books. I remember perusing the shelves of my public library, promising myself I would read each and every book that was housed there. However, the library shelves I experienced as a child were bursting with so much information that there was no possible way I would have been able to read every book they contained. While that may have seemed frustrating to me at the time, I can now reflect on what a beautiful thing it was to have "too many" books to read.
The joy of having "too many" books is something I believe everyone in the world should be able to experience. During my time as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Cambodia, I found there were far too many libraries that had far too little for their communities to read. Because of the shortage of literature available, there was also a lack of a culture of reading. But Caring for Cambodia is changing that, one child at a time. Through early literacy programs that bring families to read together, to research projects that incorportate traditional library research, Caring for Cambodia is taking great strides in bringing a culture of reading to Cambodia. In fact, they have been so successful that some of the children in their schools have read ALL of the books in their library.
Every child deserves a new story, a new learning experience, and a new opportunity. All of these things can be acccomplished through a new book.
Please join me in fundraising for Caring for Cambodia's library book fund! A few dollars can buy a lot of books, so every dollar helps! If you have any questions, or would simply like some more information, please don't hesitate to contact me at email@example.com.
Thank you for helping me to keep Cambodia reading!
